Haohin respects privacy and is committed to protecting users' personal information and data when they access, register an account, and use the learning content, chess-playing features, and services on the Haohin online Xiangqi (Chinese chess) learning platform.

This policy governs the collection, use, storage, and processing of users' personal data, and provides information about users' rights regarding their personal data.

1. Purpose of collecting personal information

Haohin collects users' personal information for the following purposes:

  • Registering, verifying, and managing user accounts.
  • Providing access to Opening and Middlegame games, play-vs-computer features, content, and services of Haohin.
  • Recording and managing learning progress, history, and results.
  • Providing play-vs-computer features, move suggestions, and game analysis ("Learn from this game").
  • Scoring moves, analyzing games, and providing results, scores, or feedback to support the learning process.
  • Processing payments, activating learning packages, renewing services, and managing transactions.
  • Supporting users and resolving technical issues.
  • Receiving and resolving requests, feedback, complaints, or disputes.
  • Sending necessary notices related to accounts, transactions, services, security, or important changes at Haohin.
  • Sending promotional information, special offers, or marketing content when the user agrees to receive such information.
  • Detecting, preventing, and handling fraud, unauthorized access, account abuse, or behavior affecting system safety.
  • Analyzing, maintaining, and improving the quality of content, features, performance, and user experience.

Fulfilling obligations under the law or lawful requests from competent state authorities. Depending on how users register and use Haohin's features, the information collected may include:

  • Full name.
  • Email address.
  • Phone number, if provided.
  • Account information.
  • Information about service packages and transactions.
  • Information necessary for payment or invoicing.
  • Learning progress and history.
  • Practice results and move scores.
  • Game data (moves) generated when users play against the computer or study Openings and Middlegames.
  • IP address, device type, operating system, browser, cookies, access time, and technical data necessary for operating and protecting the system.

Haohin does not request access to the user's microphone, camera, or location.

2. Scope of information use

Personal information is used by Haohin within the scope necessary to:

  • Provide and operate the online Xiangqi (Chinese chess) learning platform.
  • Verify and manage user accounts.
  • Provide content and features according to service packages.
  • Store and sync learning progress.
  • Analyze games, score moves and provide results, scores or learning feedback.
  • Process transactions and manage access to paid services.
  • Support users and handle technical issues.
  • Receive and resolve complaints or disputes.
  • Protect accounts, prevent fraud and ensure system safety.
  • Analyze and improve platform quality.

Haohin does not use personal information beyond the purposes and scope notified, except with appropriate user consent or as otherwise required by law.

Haohin does not sell user information or personal data.

Personal information is retained for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes set out in this Policy or for another period as required by law.

Account information and learning data may be retained while the account is active in order to maintain the user's account, history and learning progress.

Information related to transactions, payments, complaints, disputes or legal obligations may continue to be retained for the period necessary under legal regulations.

When data is no longer necessary for the purpose of collection or processing, or when the user makes a valid request to delete data, Haohin will consider deleting or processing the data in accordance with legal regulations, unless Haohin has an obligation or legal basis to continue retaining it.

To the extent necessary for providing and operating the service, user personal information may be accessed or processed by:

  • Haohin personnel responsible for operations, customer care, technical or system administration.

Service providers may only access data to the extent necessary to perform the corresponding service and in compliance with legal regulations.

Haohin does not sell, rent, or exchange user personal information with third parties for commercial purposes in violation of this Policy.

To protect data and prevent fraudulent requests, Haohin may ask users to provide the necessary information to verify identity or account ownership before processing the request.

If a transaction is carried out through an independent payment service provider, payment information may be processed directly by that provider. Haohin only receives the information necessary to confirm and manage the transaction depending on the payment method used.

When users play against the computer or use the “Learn from this game” feature, Haohin saves the game's moves to score, analyze, and display history and learning progress. Haohin does not record or process user voice data.

8. How personal data is processed

To the extent necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy, Haohin may carry out processing activities such as collecting, recording, analyzing, storing, retrieving, using, updating, adjusting, providing data to necessary processors, and deleting data in accordance with the law.

Data may be collected when users:

  • Register or manage an account.
  • Log in and use Haohin.
  • Purchase or renew a learning package.
  • Study and complete Opening and Middlegame games.
  • Play against the computer, use hints or analyze games.
  • Contact support.
  • Submit requests or complaints.
  • Interact with the website and Haohin's features.

9. Game data and machine analysis

When users play against the computer, request hints or use the “Learn from this game” feature, Haohin processes the game's moves in order to:

  • Find good moves using a Xiangqi (Chinese chess) engine.
  • Score each move.
  • Identify typical mistakes and explain their causes.
  • Suggest alternative moves.
  • Save results and learning progress.

Haohin does not record audio, does not access the microphone and does not process users' voice data.

Results generated by AI or automated systems are intended to support learning and are not an official ranking or certification of Xiangqi (Chinese chess) skill.

10. Consent and withdrawal of consent

In cases where the law requires users' consent for data processing activities, Haohin will provide the necessary information before users give their consent.

Consent must be given voluntarily and in accordance with the law.

Haohin does not treat silence or non-response as consent where the law requires consent.

Users have the right to withdraw consent for processing activities based on consent through the method provided by Haohin or by contacting Haohin.

Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the time Haohin received the request.

Withdrawing consent for data necessary to provide a feature may prevent Haohin from continuing to provide that feature.

11. Users' rights regarding personal data

Under applicable law, users have the following rights regarding their personal data, including:

  • Be informed about personal data processing activities.
  • Consent or refuse, and request withdrawal of consent for personal data processing.
  • View, edit, or request edits to personal data.
  • Request provision of personal data.

Haohin applies appropriate administrative and technical measures to protect personal data from risks such as:

  • Unauthorized alteration.
  • Loss or destruction of data.
  • Other acts affecting the safety of data.

Data access rights are limited to the scope necessary for operating Haohin and providing services.

However, no method of electronic data transmission or storage can guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for keeping their login credentials secure and for notifying Haohin if they detect signs of unauthorized access to or use of their account.

13. Risks and consequences that may arise during data processing

Although Haohin applies appropriate protection measures, data processing in an electronic environment may still involve risks such as:

  • Unauthorized access.
  • Cyberattacks.
  • Software or infrastructure errors.
  • Loss or corruption of data.
  • Data leakage due to technical incidents.
  • Incidents from third-party service providers.

-Other events beyond Haohin's reasonable control. In the event of an incident involving personal data, Haohin will take remedial measures and fulfill notification and reporting obligations in accordance with applicable law.

14. Transfer of data to third parties and processing of data outside Vietnam

Haohin may use payment service providers, servers, storage, email, security, analytics, and other technical services to operate the platform.

Data is provided only to the extent necessary to perform the corresponding service.

In the event that personal data is transferred or processed outside the territory of Vietnam, Haohin will comply with the requirements for cross-border transfer of personal data in accordance with applicable law.

15. Mechanism for receiving and resolving complaints

16. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit Haohin. Haohin uses two groups:

  • Essential cookies: they keep you signed in, maintain your session, recognise signed-in devices, remember your language and remember your cookie choice (the xq_consent cookie, stored for up to 1 year). These are always active because the site cannot work without them.
  • Analytics and advertising cookies: used only when Haohin turns on measurement or advertising tools (for example Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Microsoft Clarity). In languages that show the cookie notice, these tools run only after you choose “Accept”. They are third-party tools that may collect your IP address, device, pages viewed and usage behaviour, and process data under their own policies.

You can change your choice at any time by deleting Haohin's cookies in your browser; the cookie notice will then appear again. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some features such as signing in may stop working.

17. Children

Haohin is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

People under 16 should register an account, buy a plan or provide personal data only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with the laws on the protection of children's personal data.

If a parent or guardian finds that a child has provided personal data without appropriate consent, please contact hello@haohin.com so that Haohin can delete that data. Haohin will also delete such data when it discovers it itself.

18. Legal bases and rights under the laws of other countries

If you use Haohin from the European Union, the United Kingdom, California (USA) or another place with its own data protection law, the following applies in addition to the sections above.

The legal bases on which Haohin processes personal data:

  • Performance of a contract: creating accounts, providing plans, processing payments, saving learning progress.
  • Legitimate interests: system security, fraud prevention, improving the service where this does not unduly affect your rights.
  • Consent: analytics and advertising cookies, marketing messages. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing carried out before.
  • Legal obligation: keeping transaction records, tax obligations and requests from competent authorities.

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, receive a copy of your data in a commonly used format (data portability) and withdraw consent. Send your request to hello@haohin.com. Haohin may ask you to verify your identity and will respond within 30 days; this period may be extended for complex requests as permitted by law.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority where you live, work or where the infringement occurred. If you are in Vietnam, you may complain to the competent authority under Decree 13/2023/ND-CP.

For California residents: you have the right to know, delete and correct your personal data and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of data. Haohin does not sell personal data. When you accept advertising cookies, this may count as “sharing” under California law; you can refuse by choosing “Decline” in the cookie notice. Haohin does not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

When data is transferred outside the European Union, the United Kingdom or Vietnam (for example to payment, email or hosting providers), Haohin transfers it only as far as necessary and applies appropriate safeguards under the applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses or another mechanism recognised by law.

19. Changes to the Privacy Policy

Haohin may update the Privacy Policy to reflect changes in services, technology, data processing activities or legal regulations.

When there are significant changes affecting user rights or personal data processing activities, Haohin will provide notice or obtain consent again where required by law.

The updated version will be published on Haohin with the update date clearly stated.
